The energy transition, or the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, presents Germany with immense challenges. On one hand, the goal is clear: By 2030, the share of renewable energy in electricity consumption should rise to 65 percent. On the other hand, the paths to achieving this are complex and fraught with numerous obstacles. Integrating wind and solar power into the existing power grid requires not only technical innovation but also a significant restructuring of infrastructure.

A central issue is energy storage. Since wind and solar power are not always available, efficient storage technologies must be developed to balance out fluctuations. Current battery technologies are expensive and often not powerful enough to meet the demand. Additionally, energy policy in Germany is heavily influenced by political and societal debates that can delay progress. Public acceptance is also crucial, as the expansion of wind farms and power lines often faces resistance from local communities.
