Since 2015, the so-called 'refugee crisis' has intensified the debate on the acceptance and integration of refugees. Despite the political will to fulfill humanitarian obligations, implementation remains a Herculean task requiring numerous resources and a long-term strategy.

Ein zentrales Problem ist die soziale Integration der Flüchtlinge, die weit über die Bereitstellung von Unterkunft und Grundversorgung hinausgeht. Sprachkurse und Bildungsangebote sind zwar vorhanden, jedoch oft unzureichend, um den individuellen Bedürfnissen gerecht zu werden. Die Disparitäten in der Bildungs- und Arbeitsmarktintegration führen zu Frustration und Marginalisierung, was wiederum soziale Spannungen verschärfen kann. Die Diversität der Herkunftsländer und Kulturen der Flüchtlinge erfordert zudem maßgeschneiderte Ansätze, die bislang nur ansatzweise umgesetzt werden.
