On the night the warehouse in the Hamburg harbor went up in flames, it was unusually quiet. Only the crackling of the fire and the distant shouts of the dockworkers pierced the darkness. Detective Jana Thiele was the first to arrive at the scene. The smoke stung her eyes as she tried to get an overview. The flames had already devoured a large part of the old building, and the firefighters were battling fiercely to bring the blaze under control.

Piet Lorenz, an experienced dockworker, stood at the edge of the scene, watching the spectacle with a mixture of horror and fascination. 'I happened to notice the fire,' he told Detective Thiele. 'It was as if the warehouse went up in flames from one second to the next.' His hands trembled slightly as he spoke. 'I immediately called emergency services, but it was already too late.'

Dr. Selma Aydin, the insurance assessor, arrived shortly after the detective. 'This is a severe loss,' she murmured as she assessed the damage. 'The warehouse was full of valuable goods.' But what worried her even more was the news that a body had been found in the building. 'This sheds a whole new light on the matter,' she said with a serious expression.

Consul Brandt, the shipowner who had rented the warehouse, also appeared at the scene. His face was ashen as he spoke with Detective Thiele. 'I can't explain how this could have happened,' he said. 'We adhered to all safety regulations.' But the detective was skeptical. 'We will get to the bottom of this,' she promised. 'Every clue could be important.'

The investigation quickly revealed that the fire had been set deliberately. Arson was the only plausible explanation. But who had a motive to set the warehouse on fire? And who was the mysterious body found in the building? The trail led to a conspiracy that reached far beyond the Hamburg harbor.

At the end of the day, when the last flames were extinguished, Detective Thiele made a shocking discovery: The body in the warehouse was not that of an employee. It was an unknown person whose identity was still in the dark. 'Who was this person?' she wondered. 'And what did they have to do with the fire?' The answers to these questions were still a long way off.
